Gunman opens fire on people at house fire

A gunman shot at multiple people — hitting at least one firefighter — at the scene of a house fire in the upstate New York town of Webster early Monday, according to reports.

Fire crews were called to the scene on Lake Road at 6 a.m. At least one firefighter was listed in satisfactory condition at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, Webster Fire Marshal Rob Boutillier told the Democrat and Chronicle.

Another firefighter was taken to the hospital, but it wasn’t immediately clear if he was injured by the shooter or hurt fighting the blaze, according to ABC affiliate 13WHAM.

Monroe County Sherrif's Office wouldn't confirm if they were still looking for the shooter Monday morning.

Firefighters were letting the house fire continue to burn while the area was being secured, the Democrat and Chronicle said. The blaze spread to a neighboring house, and it wasn’t known if anyone was hurt inside either home.

Local officials planned to hold a news conference in the morning.

Shooter that lured firefighters left note: What "I like doing best - killing'

The shooter who ambushed and killed two upstate New York firefighters Monday left a note behind indicating his intentions, police said Tuesday.

"I still have to get ready to see how much of the neighborhood I can burn down and do what I like doing best - killing people," the 3-page typewritten note said.
