I suspect it's because a whole lot of .22's have the tubular feed underneath the barrel that hold 15-18 rounds. The Glenfield Marlin 60 is one such example.

BTW: You HAVE to get finger printed in DC to buy a gun. HAVE TO GET FINGER PRINTED. Shotgun, rifle, it don't matter.

NBC4 just now reported on it confirming that DC police are "investigating" the incident, but that NBC has not made an official statement.
