Good lord.
Grandma's aren't generally known for picking up things that the late husband used to do. Grandpa used to do all of the driving, when he passed it was up to my dad or one of us kids to go to grandma's and take her shopping. I can't picture her trying to learn how to shoot one of the many guns that my grandpa had, and at the time my cousins were just at the perfect age to help themselves to one (they did). My dad brought them all over to the house for safe keeping, but if that wasn't an option I'm sure the BB process would have been appealing.

Who is to say that these people sold all of their guns? The economy sucks right now. They could have sold an antique one, or maybe one they would never use just to get the $100. I don't believe this program does anything for gun violence, because violent people will find a way to be violent no matter what.

Chicago gun buyback unknowingly raises money for NRA kids' gun camp - U.S. News

"Chicago’s firearm buyback program, titled “Don’t kill a dream, save a life,” aims to get dangerous weapons off the street. But a pro-gun rights group gleefully says it used the program to turn in “non-firing junk” to raise money for a National Rifle Association youth shooting camp."

Am I to understand that this program is considered a success because - they got a lot of guns?

NOT that it demonstrably lowered gun crime, but because they bought a lot of - probably useless - guns?

This is like when they declared Cash for Clunkers a success because they spent all the money.

Gun control as it is proposed reminds me of a joke I read as a kid, where some spoiled rich brat is placed in a public school where they still use corporal punishment.

The rich father is horrified, and asks that, when Junior is in need of some discipline, they just slap the kid NEXT to him to scare him into falling in line.

Gun control is punishing millions of law-abiding citizens who would never dream of harming anyone and have demonstrated the restraint to never do so (because there are millions of gun-owners who have never shot anyone) just on the off-chance it will deter the one who WILL. Who can just as easily steal the gun from the law-abiding and do what he wants.

It's the same as punishing the entire class for something one kid did - and letting him off scot-free in hopes it might deter him.

Just with regards to Maryland.....anyone without a criminal record;ie; violent crimes/felonies, who pays the app. fee, should be investigated without question; and if he/she passes a background check, this person should be granted a CCW. Again, without question.

That's If you are not in jail you should all rights and privileges of a citizen.

Kooks like Cuomo and these nut jobs revealing permit holders names and all this have totally changed my mind. I am no longer for compromise of ANY sort on guns. They have proven they are about one and only one thing; abolition of the second amendment one way or another. When your opponents are revealing, unabashedly, that they DO intend to violate the Constitution in absolute terms ANY compromise is just silly.
