Politicians Restrict Pain Pills in Hospitals

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/11/ny....html?hp&_r=1&

Excerpt:
Some of the most common and most powerful prescription painkillers on the market will be restricted sharply in the emergency rooms at New York City’s 11 public hospitals, Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg said Thursday in an effort to crack down on what he called a citywide and national epidemic of prescription drug abuse.

Excerpt:
“Here is my problem with legislative medicine,” said Dr. Alex Rosenau, president-elect of the American College of Emergency Physicians and senior vice chairman of emergency medicine at Lehigh Valley Health Network in Eastern Pennsylvania. “It prevents me from being a professional and using my judgment.”

--------

Here's my thoughts, the hospitals don't really give narcotic pain pills anymore. Heck, most doctor's don't either. If the doctors do prescribe it, then there is a need for it.

There is a legitimate need for some people who are in pain to be prescribed narcotics. In the majority of cases, doctors do not even consider narcotics. Politicians are not doctors and shouldn't be making this decision.

If I was at a hospital, having surgery, I would hope I'd get some darn pain medication.

It is just for ER vists @ city public hospitals, they get taxpayers money. If you use the ER as your doctor, you will only get three days worth. If you need more go to your own doctor and get it just like the rest of us schmucks.
