I think the best response is "why do you think you need to ask?".

I could just as easily say, why do you need to drink that bottle of beer?
Why do you need such a big house?
Why do you need to have more than one kid?
Why do you need all of that money?

And so on - the whole purpose is to put you on the defensive to defend something you not only have every right to have, but in an unusual set of circumstances, it is something you are specifically guaranteed by the Constitution that you are allowed to have.

And the REASON it's said at all is because someone thinks you don't or shouldn't have that right.

Let's say for instance that I build some kind of powerful laser in my garage - does the government have the right to outright confiscate it, under the excuse of - "you don't need to have it?". If we relinquish that much of our lives, we might as well surrender now. I should be able to own anything.

As it happens, we wouldn't have been able to get very far in our own war with England were it not for private individuals with their own guns, their own ships, their own cannon.

The 2nd amendment does not exist to protect your right to hunt. It has everything to do with limiting the power of the government.

Yet another person who doesn't understand the meaning of "all" and "one of"

It's not an obsession. It's really just more of a morbid curiosity, wondering if the stunning levels of stupid you bring to the party mean you are breathing only with assistance. Or not.

Vince isn't obsessed, he's distressed that any human could be that mis-informed.

Excuses for obsession, that's funny
