US Navy in trouble with Philippines

Stranded Navy Ship Takes on Water | Weather News | Weather Underground

A U.S. Navy minesweeper that has been stuck on a World Heritage-listed coral reef in the Philippines since last week ignored warnings to avoid the area, a government official said on Monday.

The comments from the superintendent of Tubbataha Marine Park, Angelique Songco, added to growing anger in the Philippines over the incident, for which the U.S. Navy has apologized but may still face fines.

Park rangers radioed the USS Guardian to advise it was nearing the Tubbataha Reef on Thursday, but the ship captain insisted they raise their complaint with the U.S. embassy, Songco told reporters.

Just another place where we should take our bat, ball and glove and just leave.

Don't think we should be in any country that doesn't want us there. Waste of manpower and money. And if we're giving them foreign aid, STOP.

Sh*t happens when arrogance takes over common sense. The rangers were advising them for their own safety, yet this Captain elect to be stupid.

He'll be quietly dismissed when his commander decides he no longer has confidence in his leadership. The Navy killed a lot of command careers last year, no reason to not continue the trend this year.

Not understanding this mentality. Our ship makes a port call, then strays into their protected waters, ignores calls to not proceed and then runs aground on a protected coral reef and you are angry at them?

No, not angry at them; if "them" means the Phillipine gov't.
If they do not want U.S. presence, fine. We should just leave and say 'O-kay.....but don't come cryin' for help or protection later.'

So if one of your friends visited your house and then drove thru your manicured lawn, you wouldn't be pissed?

The ship is done for. One of the few remaining mine-countermeasure assets we have....er...had.

This isn't about 'manicured lawns' Pjumper. This is about U.S. Military presence in The Phillipines. Now, I don't know the what's and wherefore's of why we occupy space there; but, like I said, if they don't want us there, we should just say 'okay'; pack up and leave.
