You brought 3 issues up, Against Smart Meters, the appliance regulating device and private property.

Are you just spouting or are you offering to discuss it. You started this thread.

since it is constantly broadcasting, just cover it with foil a few times a day for an hour or so, it will trigger an equipment failure back at the utility company and they will have to send someone out to check on it.
of course, when they get there you dont have foil on it so they find nothing wrong,, then as they leave, run out and start over.

get your monies worth out of them

by the way, many people that had them installed have seen their bills go up almost double. The power company says its because the old meter was not accurate.

because the idea is that it communicates with your neighbors meters too, it then compares usage and averages out specific areas letting the power company know when power drops can be acceptable.
and, in order to create their own network, they are setting up receivers in various locations to pick up the meters information and transmit it back to the main office.
hard line would make it easier to disable, and using existing wifi would require paying useage to whatever internet provider covers the area in question.

so, tin foil it off and on and trigger repair tickets. burn up their man hours and make it look like the meters are not worth keeping.

What kinda range do these meters have? My guess is it sends it though the power line.

Collectors
Each day, this hourly information is sent by wireless connection or through telephone or power lines to a data collector located in your neighbourhood.

How Your Smart Meter Works
You bold one, I will bold the other.
which one is used on my home? (since you seem to have inside information)

really??? with wireless today you have to ask this???
what if their wireless is propriatary and the units talk to each other and report to a universal contact point

to get accurate reading through the existing lines would require extra unused pairs of wires.. are those out there already? do I have pairs of wires that are not used for them to hook up and down load this information from>

No, just like DSL over the phone line the signal would be a different frequency than the frequency of the power and the two different frequencies would be separated via a discriminator back at the host site.

This is horse ####, there is very little that can be figured out by power being drawn from a source beyone how much power it uses, certianly not enough to tell if my TV or my Wii is on. And even this could be masked easily enough.

Aluminum isn't the best blocker of RF signals, expecially that thin. If I were to do this I would look for some copper or another high moleculear weight metal. A jammer would be much more effective, chances are SMECO would never be able to figure that out.
