Rape abortions: 'tampering with evidence'

http://rt.com/usa/news/new-rape-evidence-bill-770/

A New Mexico lawmaker has introduced legislation that would prohibit rape victims from having an abortion and charge violators with a third-degree felony for “tampering with evidence”.

The evidence, in this case, would be the fetus. Republican Rep. Cathrynn Brown on Wednesday introduced House Bill 206, which forces victims of rape to carry their pregnancies to term as evidence for the sexual assault trial that would ensue after the baby’s birth.

The bill states that “tampering with evidence shall include procuring or facilitating an abortion, or compelling or coercing another to obtain an abortion, of a fetus that is the result of criminal sexual penetration or incest with the intent to destroy evidence of the crime.”

Sounds like the intent to conceal evidence is what is illegal rather than the abortion itself... The abortion would still be deemed legal if DNA of the fetus was obtained and documented as evidence.

Are you ####ing kidding me? And to have a woman introduce this is mind blowing. How in the hell can they think this is OK? A bet they would change their minds if they were the one who got raped.

Exactly. Just the rape alone is devastating to deal with but to be forced to keep the child of your rapist is just .. I can't even come up with a word.

There is no way this could be enacted as a way to prevent women from getting a legal abortion. As I pointed out the DNA of the aborted fetus is evidence enough as proof of paternity. I see this petition for law as grandstanding.

I see it as begging for national ridicule along the lines of the rape pregnancy defense thing and god's will over rape.

A simple test sample would suffice. To stand there and propose something so stunningly invasive, government ORDERING you to have the child, even if it is just a proposal to meet other ends, stuns me to my core how little we, the people, consider our very mindset when it comes to even the basics of what limited government would look like at the most fundamental of levels.

If a Republican proposes this, they could propose anything. This is not some late night talk show thing nor an obscure on a web forum. This is a duly elected representative of the people.

This is...crazy.

By the looks of her picture, I would suspect that she is past her prime childbearing years. But it would be really cool if it happened to her daughter, dontcha think?
