Apparently education isn't the answer

Paging Dr. Reynolds, Dr. Reynolds, cleanup on aisle 3
Nearly half of working Americans with college degrees are in jobs for which they're overqualified, a new study out Monday suggests. The study, released by the non-profit Center for College Affordability and Productivity, says the trend is likely to continue for newly minted college graduates over the next decade.
Fortunately, these overqualified degree holders can be patient and don't need to make a lot of money right away, because being so intelligent and educated, they would have known better than to go into debt to pay for a useless degree... wait a minute....

I think the trades are a better way to go for most high school graduates lately. Everyone needs plumbers and electricians, etc.

Overqualified for what? The problem is they aren't qualified for anything.

Then they should run for political office.

Yeah...that makes sense...MOST should go into the trades...because after a recession caused by a housing collapse, jobs in the trades are plentiful!

That would be exactly the conclusion one would come to...as long as they ignored every employment report that has come out since 2006...and ignored the vast amount of data showing the low unemployment rate of those with degrees with on HS or less.

Sure some degreed individuals are overqualified for their jobs...but who did the push out? Those with only HS or less.

It is better to be overqualified for a job than to be unemployed...guess the author of the article didn't bother to think that thru.

Cause we have so many jobs for the people that majored in liberal arts and drama.

I think the real problem is that most of them want easy money.

Actually, the author is smarter than you.

Recessions, depressions, downturns the trades still do very well. See, people aren't buying and selling houses, but have to make do in their old houses. Repairing electrical and plumbing , to repairing the roof, to adding a room or doing a renovation instead of trading up to a new house.

People tend not to trade in their cars during rough economic times but instead take care of, maintain, and repair the cars they have. Look, another trade that does very well during a downturn.

Of course during the dot.com blow out, educated and degreed professionals were dropping like flies with no other skill set to fall back on, while the plumbers, electricians, mechanics, and construction trades were still amassing wealth.

That and considering the college drop out rates the first two years of college: research has shown that over 30% of the kids that go to college shouldn't.

But of course you're so Damn smart you probably already knew all that

I should have been a plumber. I'd be rich.

NO ONE Wants to work the TRADES .... we had this problem 20 yrs ago

I Blame High School Guidance Counselors pushing EVERYONE to College ....

Look @ OWS ....... - I went to college 12 yrs, have a degree in Women's Studies, and I cannot get a job, let alone one paying 150k a yr life sucks give me a JOB and wipe out my student loans

Trades are a great way to make a GOOD Living ........

there should be an ASVAB Style aptitude test in the 3 yr of HS ... then Students recommended to trade schools or College accordingly

if you tested better as someone good with your hands and you still wish to go to college, fine, no Gov. loans, you get your parents to foot the bill, get a scholarship or get a bank loan
