In light of Trump's $5 million offer to Obama to release his college records, Maher quipped that he would pay Trump $5 million to prove that he is not, as Maher put it, the spawn of a monkey.

Trump’s attorney Scott S. Balber released a letter following Maher’s comments and attached a copy of Trump’s birth certificate as proof, according to Politico.

"Attached hereto is a copy of Mr. Trump’s birth certificate, demonstrating that he is the son of Fred Trump, not an orangutan," Balber wrote in the letter.

The letter also designated the five charities Maher's $5 million is to go to: Hurricane Sandy Victims, the Police Athletic League, the American Cancer Society, the March of Dimes, and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Trump voiced his feelings about the bet on Twitter after Maher's "Tonight Show" appearance.

The difference is that Donald Trump was able to come up with his actual real birth certificate within the day.
the illegal one kept trying to pass of fakes for two years until one of the fakes were good enough to almost look real. Had he really been born in the U.S, he would have had a real certificate within hours of being asked.

Would take me no longer than a trip to my safe deposit box to produce my original.

How has Bill Maher (I assume that's the liberal to whom you are referring) learned about the limits of freedom of speech from this? If anything this situation draws attention to the ways in which speech is protected.

Donald Trump has no chance of (substantively) winning this and I'm pretty sure he knows that, he's not dumb and he's no doubt been advised by his attorney regarding the legal issues.. This is about publicity (for both of them, for that matter). I'm not a fan of Mr. Maher (though he can be funny even when the point he's trying to make is misguided or nonsensical), but Mr. Trump presenting his birth certificate as proof that he isn't the son of an orangutan only helps to make one of Mr. Maher's points. At any rate, a reasonable person would not think that Mr. Maher was asserting as an actual fact that Mr. Trump's father was an actual orangutan. That was satire, or parody, or both. It's protected speech.

I hope Mr. Maher's has to spend major money to fight off Trump (whether he wins or not). I am so tired of liberal's saying what the heck they want and everyone backing away. GO GET HIS BUTT TRUMP!
