Carnival cruise ship adrift off of Mexico...

...after fire in engine room

The Coast Guard says it is maintaining communication with a Carnival cruise ship that is adrift off of Mexico after a fire in an engine room.

The Coast Guard said in a news release personnel aboard the Carnival Triumph extinguished the fire and no one was injured. The ship is now operating on emergency power about 150 miles off southern Mexico's Yucatan peninsula.

Tug boats have been dispatched to assist the ship and it is receiving supplies from another cruise ship. The Coast Guard has also dispatched a ship to assist if necessary.

In January last year, the Costa Concordia, a luxury cruise ship operated by the Carnival Corp-owned Costa Cruises, capsized and sank off the Tuscan island of Giglio in Italy, killing 32 people. Italian investigators are looking into the vessel owner's potential responsibility for the shipwreck.

I've been on several cruises with RCCL, went with Carnival two years ago because they were offering a cheaper deal. We will NEVER do Carnival again. No fire, but the food was lousy, the public areas of the ship always looked dirty, our cabin smelled terribly musty and the service was 2nd rate, IMHO, of course.

My one and only cruise there was no fire, the food was lousy, but everything else was terrific. Service, cleanliness, and cabins were first rate. I could have done without the throngs of screaming children hogging up the pool and tanning areas, but that's what we get for going over spring break.

Yes, however if you salvage it right now, you also own all the people on it.

of course depending on your income, the deduction for them on the tax might be worthwhile.

We did the triumph a few years ago, our first time with carnival. The ship looked old and dirty, left over food from room service would sit in the hall for a day or more before getting picked up. The food was sub-par and service was lowsey.

My parents said the identical thing when they took a carnival sailing.

Carnival said all passengers would receive a refund and "cruise credit equal to the amount paid for this voyage." Guests will also be refunded their transportation expenses and all purchases made on the ship.

I am somehow glad I have avoided Carnival cruises. Cruise ship singer mystery: Death of singer still unknown - Oklahoma City Travel | Examiner.com

It appears the photo in the article is a stock photo and not of the ship in question. Still a valid post.

Yeah, but carrying them on your insurance could really add up.
