Fans don KKK hoods

The student body of a high school in North Dakota is under fire after a photo emerged depicting three students wearing Ku Klux Klan hoods at a boys hockey game.

As first reported by the Grand Forks Herald, and followed upon by the Associated Press, three students at North Forks (N.D.) Red River High were captured on film wearing Ku Klux Klan hoods during a state semifinal boys hockey game against Fargo (N.D.) Davies High. The KKK hoods were apparently a misguided attempt to highlight the Red River fans’ whiteout at the University of North Dakota’s Ralph Englestad Arena.

What child in North Dakota would know about the KKK, or be carrying it on? It was a mistake, like dressing up as a ghost for Halloween. If they were making a statement, it was probably for Native Americans. Guess what, the KKK didn't survive as an outright entity today, because it is evil, and had evil beginnings. And, what is equally hilarious is that the KKK was started by post Civil War Democrats. The hypocrisy is never ending! RIP Senator Byrd! Gotta love it!

They know about the KKK in high school. If they don't, they deserve to be expelled for being stupid ass morons.

That said, I agree with your statements about their intent - I highly doubt there was any sinister intent here. It was just an extremely stupid, not thought out at all attempt at showing team pride.

I would be more concerned about the blatantly racist actions of those kids in white face immediately behind the three hooded guys.

"whiteout" is a term of weather in NODAK, not racist. In this case, the "whiteout" was a promotion for selling t-shirts of the college team's white/green colors. Again, not racist. And let's not talk about the fighting Sioux. The tribes all like the name. It's the NCAA that is being so PC about it. The author just doesn't know his history.

If these students were making some kind of statement it would be about the namesake of the rival school. "Davies" High school which is named after Judge Davies of the U.S. District Court in Fargo, North Dakota. Judge Ronald Davies was the Federal Judge that ordered the schools in Little Rock to desegregate in 1957. It was a stupid statement for them to make and I'm sure they are paying dearly for it.
