I think you still have to be a Tard to drink lab chems.

No offense to your son or you by any means, it's just a term some use.

No offense newnickname but I would stake my life on it that the student that drank that was of what's defined as normal intelligence. Tagging a person as a "Tard" is therefore pretty inappropriate. The majority of children that I know as mentally retarded wouldn't dream of doing something so stupid.

Good Lord...

First off... I never claimed to be PC.

Second... uncork your azz and blow out a sense of humor.

Third and Finally... I have never said an ill word about the mentally challenged. And I have never claimed that they brought it upon themselves. I have compassion and empathy for the mentally challenged, and I will be the first to stand up and speak out when I feel they are abused or taken advantage of. I myself have relatives who were born with mental disabilities, including Downs Syndrome, ADHD, and a couple others. I have never in my adult life referred to someone with a mental disability as a retard, and have always in my adult life used the term "retard" or "tard" to describe someone who acts stupidly or performs stupid acts, when they would otherwise seemingly be capable of normal and reasonable thought processes. Is it the 'appropriate' use by the definition of the word? No. Is it humorous? Yes. Just ask ninety percent of the members on this board or any other board (except for maybe the Democratic Underground). Seems to me that you're the one who is so oversensitive about your son that you want to scream out and claim everyone else is out to demean him.

I agree with Sleuth for the most part. Those terms really haven't had anything to do with the mentally challenged since probably the '50s. They're just general insults. And I say this as someone who was taunted as "retard" and "gumball brain" by most of my classmates in elementary school, because I was socially inept.

I still say ### & Gay when making fun of people. Does that mean I have to change my insults also? Damnit!

I've switched to calling people French

It seems to really get under their skin.

Your profile says your occupation is an engineer. Was that only wannabe an engineer? Or is that just another extension of your fabulous vocabulary? And how do your mentally challenged relatives respond when you address them as Tards? I have a great sense of humor Sleuth 14 after all I'm taking the time out to respond to you. And you're wrong. I'm not taking out my son's disabilities on the world. He is what he is. I do try to stamp out stupidity when I read it though, get the picture darlin'?

Gay seems to be evolving into a general insult. But I don't know anyone who uses ### to mean anything but a man who's homosexual, or at least insufficiently masculine.
