Funeral Coverage

I was listening to the radio this morning and I heard quite a few people complaining about the Reagan funeral coverage. They're claiming that it was overkill to broadcast his ceremony on every station, including cable channels. One guy stated..."I wish they would put his body in the ground already and move on to something else." I thought this was incredibly rude and unpatriotic of folks to feel that way considering he was one of our country's presidents.

Do you feel it was overkill as well? I'd like to hear your thoughts...

Considering these same stations gave Princess Di's funeral all-day & all-channel coverage, and she wasn't a resident, much less a PRESIDENT, of THIS country, I say no, it was NOT overkill.

Christ, OJ owned the TVs and radios during his trial, and he was charged with Murder!

I think Reagan has more movies to his credit than Orenthal.

Actually, I do. Sort of.

Personally, I feel that it's history in the making. Everyone should pay attention, and pay respect - but if it's on every station, including cable channels, then yeah - that's too much.

Some people didn't like Reagan, they should be able to watch something else.

Some people don't care. They should be able to watch something else.

On the other hand - TV stations and networks are privately owned media. They should be able to show whatever they want. If you don't like it, turn off the idiot box, and go ride a bike or something.

How amusing. I was just having this conversation with my Dad last night about how the nutties are the first ones to say "Turn the channel if you don't like it" when it comes to porn and obscenity. But when it's the death of a Republican President, suddenly the clicker doesn't work anymore.

it's my prerogative to watch it or not watch it. I don't schedule the programming; just pick what I wanna watch. If someone doesn't wanna watch it, they just change the channel. If they don't like what that channel is showing, they should biatch to the station just like when they allow a show to air a cuss word.

I don't think cinemax, hbo, showtime, nickelodeon, etc aired the events from yesterday, did they?

On a side note, I noticed that very FEW commercials were shown during the events yesterday, which means the stations aren't making money by airing it.

One thing that greatly peeved me was flipping through and catching a bit of the ABC presentation. They were politicing over his ceremony.

Comments like -- Well, I can't say what Reagan would feel about Bush not allowing the flag draped caskets of fallen soldiers in Iraq not being media aired, but I can tell you what he did do. (Implying Reagan would be upset with it) (guess who said that lovely bit?)

Talking about Reagan's great statesmanship they quickly follow with just like Clinton and then a statement about how both of them did so well unlike "other" (it was stated that way with a following chuckle) presidents.

Its a ceremony over REAGAN! It is not a platform for liberal press members to once again espouse their beliefs!
