Success Equals Effort (SEE) policy

2 Benedict professors fired over grade policy

Two Benedict College science professors have been fired after they refused to assign grades that rewarded students’ effort as much as acquired knowledge.

The formula calls for calculating freshman grades based on a 60-40 formula, with effort counting for 60 percent and academics counting for 40 percent.

In the sophomore year, the formula would be 50-50; by junior year, students would be judged strictly on academic performance.

Awarding a C to a student whose highest exam score was less than 40 percent was more than he could tolerate.

Quote:
“There comes a time when you have to say this is wrong,”

“I did it (awarded grades) strictly on academic performance,” Motley said. “They told us to go back and recalculate the grades, and I just refused to do it.”

I hope all medical schools don't start grading on effort

I agree with the professors. Good for them. This is another example of giving people credit where credit is not due. I bet the guy that designed the bridge at Solomons got partial credit in school. That certainly was a good a idea wasn't it? I keep wondering when the "band aids" are going to fail and the whole thing collapses.

Sorry 'bout that. The truth hurts. In this case, it could be both figuratively and physically.

I emailed the college's public relations person and wrote her the following:

You do understand that your college's SEE policy is the laughing stock of the Internet. Your college brings to a new low the academic standards of the United States.

Future doctors and architects are being graded like this.

SO when the house caves in on you, by the time you get to the hospital you can get treated by another slobbering baboon.
