Jumper at Metro Center

Orange, Blue Line Service Restored
Man Struck, Killed by Train at Metro Center

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...2004Dec20.html

Service on Metro's Blue and Orange lines was shut down between Farragut West and Federal Triangle stations for about three hours this afternoon after a train struck and killed a man on the tracks at Metro Center.

Witnesses told investigators that a man apparently jumped into the path of a train headed in the direction of New Carrollton at 2:06 p.m. The man's body came to rest under the second rail car and several limbs were severed, said a Metro source who agreed to speak on the condition of anonymity.

Metro officials set up bus shuttles to carry passengers between the affected stations, Farragut West, McPherson Square, Metro Center and Federal Triangle, and they counseled riders to take alternative routes before the service was restored.

The Orange and Blue lines are Metro's main east-west artery underneath downtown Washington, where they use the same tracks.

I wonder which passenger will sue Metro for pain and suffering over the holiday season.
