Goes well with...

I suppose my experience with the state of Maine was better. I got a signed garnishment order stapled to the divorce/child support judgment. The instructions simply said "Sign and mail to state dept of CSE at the first missed payment." I did it, and they sent me a release stating if I signed, the state of Maine then took over my case on my behalf. I was authorizing them to do whatever necessary on my behalf, even going to court and capturing assets for the child support. I signed it, I had a check in 3 weeks. They dogged her ass constantly, she hopped jobs, they were on her. I got her tax return, both state and federal and it worked exactly as advertised. I was not on welfare either. She had to deal with the state and not me. Took the burden of being unpleasant off me totally.

I know some states like Michigan make the respondent pay the support directly to the state and they payed you. That was they had control of the case day one form the divorce.

I would have to say that it sounds as though MD has weak, pizz poor laws regarding CS. Might be time to write letters and lobby state legislators. They do listen and if they don't ditch them.
Pete,

Maryland has similar programs in place with the major difference benig that the person not receiving the child support payments has to apply for the service from the child support enforcement agency. It seems that you don't even need to go to court to obtain a judgement against the owing party.

If child support is in arrears all the custodial parent has to do is complete the application and pay the one-time fee (not to exceed $25, and can be waived or collected from funds collected) and then the full power of the program kicks in and the hunt for the dead-beat begins and includes attachment of any tax refunds (both Federal and state), garnishment of wages, seizure of bank accounts, stocks, bonds, property, can include suspension of the dead-beat's driver's license and if dodged can result in jail time.

I think a lot of the problem is people not knowing what is available or, for many I'm sure, not wanting to take the effort get what they are due.

I figured that it was pretty similar. I even helped someone on this board with advise on how to get support enforcement across state lines and it worked. Like I said before I had my ex's wages garnished for a couple years. I even got her tax return a couple times. When I moved I had to stop enforcement in Maine because I was not a resident anymore and now she is not a resident so Maine has no jurisdiction. In due time I will apply for support enforcement via MD. In the meantime I let the hole get deeper because left to her own devices she will not pay voluntarily.

I didnt read all the replies but im going to give my 2 cents anyway...

Take two to tango, she can have the kid and force the man to pay child support... Or she can choose to not have the kid... That doesnt sound like equal rights to me? The choice to have sex was made by two people, the result should of what happens with the product should also be made by the same two people.

A man is just as capable of raising a kid alone as a woman is... No reason he shouldnt be given the opportunity, it is after all as much his as it is the womans

Let's see. I read al this and see same ol same ol.

Women: We give birth. We are the best.

Men: I don't see what the big deal is.

Bustem': Who really cares anyways, it's not going to change anything by sitting around arguing about something that's been argued since the begining of time.

I have seen chicks hustling around 300+ lb cruise boxes. They're called Lesbians. No, really. Women will work harder than the "boys" just so we don't have to put up with the kind of comments coming out of your brain.
Sounds like you were onboard the USS SISSY. Women, straight and otherwise pull their weight and then some.
The only thing you're a poster child for IS abortion.

I am fairly sure that Hello6 is a woman and therefore, by law, does not have to register for the draft (which isn’t going on anyway so that point is moot) and I am also sure that you haven't served a single day either. If she has served does that mean she is more of a man then you?

the point is by law we arent equal, im REQUIRED to do it regardless of my choice... I thought she was insulting someone who served without doing it herself, i apparently was wrong and i am sorry...
