Severe Storms, Tornadoes Kill 14 in Florida

Surprised nobody' posted yet... Same day as U.N. releases global warming report...
DEVELOPING STORY: Storms carrying what was believed to be the state’s deadliest tornado in a decade cut a path across four central Florida counties early Friday, killing at least 14 people, damaging hundreds of homes and littering fields with clothes, furniture and splintered lumber.

At least one tornado touched down overnight, and central Florida residents were on alert for new twisters throughout the morning.

Lake County spokesman Christopher Patton confirmed the 14 deaths, 11 in Paisley and three in Lady Lake, where the mayor said nearly every home was destroyed.

The storm went through so many mobile homes that it "looks like a war zone; it's been totally devastated,” said Ed Nathanson, Lady Lake's police chief.

An official at the county's emergency operations center said more than 500 buildings were damaged or destroyed across the county. Some people were still reported to be missing.

Probably won't be seeing any "The Villages" ads on TV any time soon.

At Least 19 Dead...

Disaster crews with dogs went from one pile of debris to another in a search for bodies Friday after powerful storms, including at least one tornado, smashed hundreds of homes across central Florida, killing at least 19 people and leaving several thousand homeless.
It was the deadliest combination of thunderstorms and tornadoes to hit Florida in nearly a decade, cutting a 40-mile swath of destruction across four counties just before daybreak, terrorizing residents of one of the nation’s biggest retirement communities, and leaving trees and fields littered with clothes, furniture and splintered lumber.

Volusia County estimated that 500 properties there sustained $80 million in damage; there was no similar estimate available in harder-hit Lake County. Curfews were imposed in parts of both counties to discourage looters.

My family was fortunate in that those relatives of ours who reside in Florida are all safe and accounted for, prayers to the families in Florida who have lost so much.
