I remember a couple years ago I bought a few boxes of 45 to go shooting one weekend from a walmart and they asked for my ID. I figured I was just getting carded for the purchase but then they started writing stuff in a book. I asked why and they guy just said I dont know, I'm supposed to do this. I told him forget it and keep the ammo.

This is just downright frightening. When they do things like this, and show up in the middle of thenight for gun inspections (like your linked story), well it's not that far away from the time when they start confiscating them on a mass scale.

I went into a gun shop last night in WV. Way Way different than in MD. I could have walked out with a handgun or an AK 47.... they even had a 50 BMG there

Knowing which individual buys what ammo is completely useless for inventory control. If you are thinking of demographic statistics, they still don't need to know names.

Thing is, the police are just doing their jobs. This is coming from the people higher up who tell them what to do...such as the politicians in charge.

I buy ammo from Fred's all the time and I've never been asked for ID.
