Well Mistress Mary.... That depends on the individual child. I'd trust my 6 year old over my brother when he was 14 ANY day.

The fact of the matter is without knowing the specifics of the situation that's being discussed one can not say if it was a bad judgement call on the part of the father or just a kid being a kid and doing what they wanted opposed to what they were told they were allowed to.

I'm sure my mother doesn't trust my 6 year old to babysit my 3 year old but she let's him hold his hand as they walk through the yard to the neighbors house. It's easy to be the perfect parent and have all the answers from a 30,000 foot view.
