| While I am sad that my Katie didn't make it into the top 50, I am voting for Dylan-Chaptico to keep it local. There are some gorgeous babies to vote on. Some are definently not as cute as mine, but they must have had more votes. Good luck Dylan and his family. ![]() |

I have a question on the girl with glasses on. This came up over the weekend. How is it that little kids (babies-pre k I'd say) can have it determined that they need glasses or have hearing problems? Someone was saying that a baby (like, 6 mo) had hearing problems (or, the doctor said that) and baby was going for further testing. I have seen more than one baby zone out and pay 0 attention to outside things...how do they determine there may be hearing problems? And for the glasses thing, what if the kid can't read yet? I can't understand how a firm conclusion can be reached that they need glasses if they cannot even attempt the letter test (whatever it's called). The only thing I see possible is that a doctor says that some part of their eye is not developed/injured/etc...but what would lead them to even investigate that in most cases?

For hearing tests on babies, they have a test where they can see brain waves when they tested for hearing. Deaf babies' brain waves would show no lines when being tested. Hearing babies' brain waves would show lines when they hear something. I had both of my babies tested for hearing right after they were born because I'm deaf, so we wanted to make sure if the baby is deaf or not. If the baby is deaf, the doctor and parents need to work together to make sure the baby have the best communication skills developing properly. As for eye test, I'm interested in finding that out too. I'm guessing by watching and testing to see if the baby can see or not.

| The little girl we have now failed her first hearing test at the hospital and then another one at 5 months old. I’m not sure what they did for those tests but when I took her in February (8 months old) at John Hopkins we just sat in a sound booth and there were lots of noises and she just had to turn her head to respond to them – real high tech - she seemed to pass this test finally - I think she's just stubborn - but they want to see her back in a year to retest - I guess it will be the same thing.

| There is a little boy on there with an O's hat from Prince Frederick. He got my vote. He's somewhat local, adorable, and his photo isn't against the rules. ![]() |

She might be deaf or have some hearing loss. She probably just turned her head to the sound even though she didn't hear it. I have been to zillion of hearing tests before age of 3 years old and finally they confirmed my hearing loss at 3 years old after a numberous of hearing tests being repeated over and over. I have some memories of being tested over and over.
