Thumbs down 104.3 Fever

The little one woke up at 2:30 with a fever of 104.3. It's now down to 103.4 with motrin and tylenol. I feel so bad for her when she's sick. We'll be headed to the doctor as soon as they open or to urgent care if it goes back up.

How old? If she's under two, I'd suspect Roseola. My daughter had it. It's over quick, but that high fever is terrible.

Nearly two and a half. I remember when yours had it, I diagnosed it correctly before you made it to the doctor. I'm getting ready to call the doctor's office now.

How's she doing?
I swear mine only get fevers at night. Once daughter had a 104.1 fever at 3am and I called my insurance nurse line and they kept telling me I should only be concerned right now if she was lethargic. I finally told them it was 3am--the whole freaking house is lethargic.

Thanks for asking. She is feeling a little better, fever is down alot with motrin and tylenol. I know what you mean about lethargic! She actually freaked me out this morning with her temp so high, so was actually delarious with the temp. She was walking in circles, crying, talking crazy things and wanting me to paint her fingernails pink Mind you, she hates having her fingernails and toenails cut, so it wasn't normal for her to be so adament about having them done at 3 a.m.

Doc did a rapid strep (neg) because her throat is extremely red and ucky looking. He also did a UA. She has blood in her urine, so she probably has a UTI. Fairly normal when first potty training (she's been potty trained for about 2 months) because they don't always completely empty their bladder. He'll see her back Monday morning for f/u. She's on antibiotics. Normally she tolerates all medicine well. She HATES this medicine! It's the first time ever she's refused to take any medicine. Oh this is not going to be fun.

What med. is it? Mine hate Cef-tin (sp?) Other than that most are tolerable, have you tried mixing with a little juice or Pedialyte?

Oh no! If your daughter has a problem with Augmentin, she's going to have a problem with this one, I only gave it to my boy for 2 days and I took him off of it and demanded that they call in something else along with the Nystatin for the yeast infection that the Ceftin had caused! I will also never go to our urgent care if the same doctor is on duty again, she didn't listen to me at all, I told her he would get a yeast infection unless he had Zithromax, Amoxicillan or Omnicef! Good Luck! (I hope she's not like my son and you don't have any problems, but I would go get it flavored, did you taste it? I did and it tastes like charcoal and school paste from what I remember...)

Has anyone tried the flavoring for liquid medicine? If so did it help at all with the taste?

I have done the flavoring. My son has had to take liquid Prednisone which tastes really nasty. I had them flavor it grape and he took it with no problem. It is so worth the extra couple of dollars for this, IMO.

For the lady who was complaining about the anitbiotic that the doctor prescribed her, I would be very careful demanding which ones are prescribed for your little one. I am not judging you, as you obviously know what side effects you are going to get from some of them, but some anitbiotics are definitely better for some infections than others. I, personally, would rather have to follow up with something for a yeast infection a couple of days later and know that the infection was taken care of than have them prescribe something that might not be the best thing or might not knock it out all the way. Again, I am not judging you, just pointing out that not all antibiotics are created equal.
