Kids and coffee

What's your opinion of kids drinking coffee? I was raise Mormon and didn't start drinking coffee until after I joined the Navy so I have no expirence with this. I see kids aged 13 and 14 at Starbucks getting coffee all the time and think it's not good, but am I wrong? I don't think my kids should drink coffee until they have grown.

You are not wrong in thinking it is not good for them. Coffee is quite the assault on the system even for young adults. Takes awhile to develop tolerance and then the addiction.

My question would be why do you care and what on earth would you propose we do about it?

Curious. I'm not going to let my kids drink coffee, and I realize that when they get older I can't be there 24/7, but hopefully I'll have set a precedent by then. That's my plan, I was just curious what other demon spawn raisers thought of it. Maybe I'm way out in left field, I don't know. Like I said, I was raised in a coffee free environment so I have no background on the subject.

I would be more concerned about all the calories they are drinking in those chi-chi coffees in addition to the caffeine. I see teenaged girls buying Starbucks' Frappes & Lattes with this & that syrup added. They are drinking high amounts of sugar calories on top of the caffeine. Not to mention spending a fortune doing it. That right there is a crime. Paying $5-6.00 for coffee is crazy IMO.

I regulated my kids' intake of soda when they were 13-14. Now, it's much harder to do, and I have to pick my battles with the 17 yo.

However, Mountain Dew has a lot of caffeine compared to regular cola - but it has less than most of these coffees.

I would be more concerned about those Monster drinks with the super high doses of caffeine.
