Toni Braxton charges kids rent...

Sure wish I would have thought of this.... love it!

The "Braxton Family Values" star reveals she's already started training her kids for the real world by taking a minimal fee from Denim, 11, and 9-year-old Diezel's weekly allowance.

But even that's too much for her boys. She explains, "I charge them rent. I give them allowance. Denim gets $15. Diezel gets $10 a week. They have to take out the trash, do all these things, but I make them pay me rent. Diezel pays $1, Denim pays $1.50. I swear to god, Diezel pays a 50 cents for utilities. Denim pays 25 cents for utilities, for cable ... I charge them! So they give me, like, $3 a week out of their allowance. I told them one day you'll have to pay rent, so I'm helping you. They get upset, '$3 a week mom? $3?!'"

That sounds like a great idea. I'll wait a few more years and start.

I used to give an allowance, but then changed my mind. I decided I wasn't going to pay my daughter for doing what she's supposed to, which is having a clean room and bathroom, and helping around the house. I'm not a maid and Iexpect everyone to partake in their share of household responsibilities. However, if my daughter goes above and beyond what is required, then I might throw her a few bucks.

We don't give allowances either nor do we pay for good report cards. But if our oldest mows the yard or helps us with certain chores, we will give him some money.

I pay mine a little when they do stuff that is above what I expect them to. I paid my son .50 per week for taking my trash outside when I had curbside service. I thought I got a great deal.

We got allowances as kids only if we did our chores. As soon as I got my first job at 16 I was charged rent by my parents until I went into the military at 20. I came home one time on leave and my parents gave me every bit my rent $$ back saying they were proud of me and it was a form of savings and a lesson in responsibility. That was a nice surprise especially living on an Airman Basics pay.

I did not charge my step-daughter rent because she was working 2 jobs and going to college. I said as long as you are working, going to school, saving money and staying out of trouble you can live here rent free.

I wouldn't be pissed about having to pay her rent as much as I'd be pissed that my name was Diezel or Denim.

Umm didn't she file bankruptcy like 3 times? She doesn't even know how to pay her own bills. SMH.

Which is probably why she is trying to teach her children differently. I've made PLENTY of mistakes in my life. I am trying to teach my children to do the opposite. People can learn from their mistakes and do well later in life.
