My aunt has 15 cats. She spays and neuters them all and they all go to the vet once a year. When you go in her house, you can't even tell she has animals. She has like 7 litter boxes that get cleaned everyday.

Heck, I only have two cats and I need a to keep mine clean.

The other cat was found when he was homeless in VA. He was even spayed and had his claws removed.

What kind of person has a cat's claws removed, then kicks him out??
Good grief! And they call the cat the animal!

My 2 cats were from a shelter in Okinawa, I wanted one and hubby wanted the other, we ended up with both many years ago. They are great cats who puke all over the house, leave turds scraped off outside the box, and occasionally scratch the kids for being too friendly but we still keep them. I can't imagine not having two cats sleeping in our bed and making us miserable. It's all one big family....

The over population of animals is not going to stop until people realise that there doesn't need to be any more puppies or kittens coming from dogs or cats that shouldn't be bred in the first place, either because of health or temperament issues, not to mention they are just adding to the over population. millions of animals are euthanized every year due to overpopulation, shelters can't keep animals forever, there should be some sort of laws on breeding, and spaying and neutering and animal ownership.

I, along with Bob Barker, am all about spay and neuter your pet. I'm not huge on designer mutts (see my thread about "chugs" and "puggles"), I'm not huge on puppy mills. What pains me is what I had to do with my beloved JRT that I rescued. This little man was my saving grace when my ex went out to sea. I had him and a 1 year old and suprisingly it was no trouble balancing the both, they loved eachother.
Marital problems arose 3 years later. We sepatared. During that time I spent a lot away from my ex and my pup as I couldn't bring a dog to the place I was staying. There are no shelters in this area that alow animals so I along with pup suffered, I had no other choice, I had to give him up. It was the worst day and now, as I type tears are streaming down my face. I saved him, he saved my life and now we are apart. It kills me. I don't know where he is, if he is cold, if he is happy but the time I have given him as he has given me was priceless. Running through the woods with him, throwing sticks or balls, he was relentless.

I have heard of women's shelters in California that allow dogs and have donated to them. I wish that we had something here because pup would be right by my side as I type this.

I do know that he was adopted and not euthanized so I feel better about that but just like mom knows best I know what he needs and what he wants and how that little bugger made me smile everyday just by looking at me and that little bark, he loved my child and I so much. He kept me from certain death, yes its true, he knew when I was down and he knew how to protect me even though he was little he was tenacious, such as a JRT.

Thanks for bringing me down.

Welcome to the world of animal rescue...
In a perfect world, there would be responsible pet ownership, spaying & neutering, no puppy mills or back yard breeders.
Many of us love our pets, think of them as our children and don't consider them disposable. We raise money for Southern MD Spay & Neuter and keep information on clinics and events, rescue groups and host pet adoptions every Sunday.
Every little bit helps. It is hard to not become cynical and sometimes I just want to bop people on the head when they tell me they bred their dog because it was "cute" (cute=$$$) Or when a man tells me he can't get his male fixed and squeezes his legs together. And on and on.
Thanks for what you are doing, working at a shelter. It is quite rewarding to see an animal become a permanent family member that will be treated well and loved to pieces. :-)

I just keep trying to work with her, we have a bissell spot bot and we are seriously getting our moneys worth out of it, but it does get on your last nerve, especially if we walk her in the morning and then are on the way out the door to work and all of a sudden you either walk in a nice little wet spot or smell an awlful stench (like this morning).

I wonder what it is about them that makes them just do what they want? I think she will get along with the cats, and usually the cats are pretty cool with the dogs I have had in the house, but she has tormented them through the bedroom doors, it will take a bit of time to get their trust. She has been "attacked" by two of them so far, but every day I try to introduce them for a few minutes either before or after work and hopefully within the next 10 years or so they will get along! lol

I'm sorry to hear that your doggy is having health problems. Actually one of the reasons that we decided on her was after reading up on them, they seem to have very little health issues, other than my girl being slightly overweight (when I got her she was 16 pounds) and she I have had her she has gained 3 pounds, my vet said to put her on a diet!
Try Urine Be Gone you can get it at Bed Bath and Beyond. It really works well and takes the pee smell out of your carpets, furniture or what ever. With the urine smell gone she will not want to pee in the same place.

I got a dog from the Humane Society...A beagle. I've had her almost 2 years now. It's taken a lot of time to get her adjusted to a new environment. She has become a good dog. She was spayed when I got her. I agree on the spaying and neutering. There is an overpopulation of animals and people don't seem to understand that and they just keep breeding and breeding these animals and then sell them for money or try to sell them for money. If they can't get the money, they end up at a shelter in hopes that they will be adopted because the breeders can't keep them. I don't understand what goes people's minds most times. I had a Pomeranian and 2 years ago today, I had to have her euthanized because she had cancer. She was 8 years old. I got her as a puppy and she was a wonderful little fur baby. Animals are a responsibility and they become attached to humans like everyone else.
