Fantastic!!

Would you share the file info on the settings with us'ens??
ISO 100 , 1/200 and around f12 , Its more of a process than settings with digital . All Manuel no TTL With film you need a flash meter on digital I use the LCD. Set the shutter at its fastest sync speed. 1/200 in my case then guess at aperture . Chimp to shot and adjust the aperture for fill exposure or adjust strobe strength ( your call) . Now color correct with a gel over strobe if desired ,once the exposure is correctly for fill. Adjust the shutter speed down to get the exposure you want for ambient light. it’s a lot easier than it sounds. Start with a little strobe at ¼ or half power and work out settings from there.

Now that's some excellent use of fill lighting. Way better than I can manage :) Now, that said, there is realy only just one thing that really detracts in the shot and that's the rope.

Thanks Kurt and everyone else.

How about this edit. Reduced exposure on rope area and it does seem to give a bit more pop.

Dead Eye, have you done much with gels on the flash? How have you attached them? DIY? Commercial holder?

I have a Rosco sample pack and a set of films that were given to me. The sample pack is an odd size and will need a little thought before I can use them. The others just need to be cut down to size for the flash. I'm thinking of using adhesive backed velcro squares on the filters and flash to hold those.

I got a few sheets 24 x something , about $7 each. Cut a few pieces a tad bigger than the lens on the flash and tape them on with packing tape "almost same as gaffers" . Green saves a ton of post when shooting indoors in Florissant light. Orange is my most used as I like to warm stuff up at sunset to give the image a cozy feel. If you need green or orange I have a lot of it. I could use some blue though. Me thinks the Velcro is overkill. 1 roll of tape last like forever and it resticks for several uses.

I'll give teh tape a shot. I was worried about mucking up my nice pretty flash with sticky crap. But hey, if everybody else is doing it...

I think I have some blue filter material. I'll check when I get home.

Hey Dead Eye, I almost forgot about this! I have several different shades of blue filter film. Cost ya a cup of coffee if you want a piece.
