Use of Canon SD950 IS

Hi Everyone,

I am an amateur, just got this camera, it is needed for a project, and I did not realize that the printing on the buttons was going to be so hard to read and so tiny. I will have to be close up glasses at CVS or something. I am learning this camera so I need to see.

I am taking pictures of inside walls of a house that has no electricity just natural lighting. Is it your opinion that I better get the flash that goes with this camera? There is an option to set the function at scene. I am getting a tripod - probably one at Radio Shack in Dunkirk for about $30.
Any thoughts appreciated:).

Hi Katherine!---ck out POTN.net (short for photography on the net)---canon has a website which has a section for every camera model, lenses, lighting issues, and a gazillion different photography styles. Many on there are pros---but are very helpful---novice or not.....they will help you out. I can't tell you how much I have learned on that site about my canon S3.
Hope this helps!

From looking at the specs for your camera, It doesn't have an external flash option. You just have the built in flash.

Best I can say is to read your manual thoroughly, and stop at a book store and look for a How to use a Digital Camera book. I am not saying this to be a smart ass, these type books are just so much better than your manual.

It will teach you how a camera works and how to use it.

Biggest problem people have is, they keep the camera in Auto mode and never understand what the camera is doing or how it works.

I am pretty sure the book store in Wildewood has a few books like I mentioned.

LusbyMom, You got the D40, right? If you are looking to understand the camera better and get better pictures, this book will help!

Amazon.com: Nikon D40/D40x Digital Field Guide: David D. Busch: Books

This series of books are like a camera manual should be. It explains what the function of the buttons are and how to use them. Not just what the name of the button or function is.
