Capitol Feud: A 12-Year-Old Is the Fodder

"WASHINGTON, Oct. 9 — There have been moments when the fight between Congressional Democrats and President Bush over the State Children’s Health Insurance Program seemed to devolve into a shouting match about who loves children more.

So when Democrats enlisted 12-year-old Graeme Frost, who along with a younger sister relied on the program for treatment of severe brain injuries suffered in a car crash, to give the response to Mr. Bush’s weekly radio address on Sept. 29, Republican opponents quickly accused them of exploiting the boy to score political points.

Then, they wasted little time in going after him to score their own."

It's all politics as usual..

Democrats formulate a bill for child healthcare that they KNOW ANY president would veto.. they get the veto they expect then start with the "Bush hates your kids".. It's right up there with "Bush hates black people" and just as believable.

Democrats are playing with childrens health as they didn't re-write the bill when the President told them flat -out, as written he was going to veto it. We can't afford it as written, and it't the same demo game as always.. Let them in the door.. we'll cover poor kids, living at or below the poverty level, and they increase it EVERY chance they get, until now it covers kids in families living at (in some parts of the country) FOUR times the poverty level.

They couldn't leave well enough alone and just write the bill to cover the same people (like those brain injured kids) they had to try to increase the coverage by doubling or tripling it (and the cost) so now those that are covered are in danger of losing it.

...and they stupidly chose a kid from Maryland with the loosest, most liberal criteria for eligibility possible as their poster child. It's another example of, 'Don't bother me with facts, let's go for the sympathy vote.'
