she was asking, not saying that's what you said.

I think it's all about respecting the process and the office. You can have open contempt for the president, but (as stated above) the sane, adult person will respect the process that got the president to his/her postion, and respect that - right or wrong - that person is the president until the next person is president.

Once we start declaring we're not being led by the leaders, we're nothing less than anarchy.

You can love the representative republic...but if the President isn't the person you voted for, you don't have to love him.

I'm not arguing the fact that the elected leader is the president. I said the sticker could have been worded differently...so instead of saying, "Not my president," it could have said, "I don't support the president, but I still support my country" or something like that.

I disagree. I don't think you have to follow him. Just because he was elected by the process that we love doesn't mean we have to follow him. Like I said, it was a badly worded sticker. I get the point they were trying to make, but it was worded badly.

Maybe I'm arguing the wrong point. Your point was that he's still our president, even if we don't like him. My point was that we have the right to disagree with our president. We don't have to like him. They're 2 different arguments. I agree that he's still the president of the country, so if he's elected, he's still our president whether we like him or not. I got side-tracked.

The bumper sticker said, "Not my president, but still my country." I assume it means what it says, in plain English, without interpretation and spin.

This person says that the US (or wherever they're from) is their country, yet the president of that country is not their president. This is factually incorrect and mentions nothing about agreeing with said president.

If what they meant to say is that they disagree with the president, they should have said so instead of making some silly bombastic statement that is factually incorrect.

Right. I just said that in my previous post.

It is worded like it is worded, there is nothing to argue. He IS your president like it or not. You are not getting the point. I am saying it is not possible to claim you love a country that is made great because it's a representative republic, but denounce result of that process.

Maybe a better bumper sticker would be "If my guy is elected, it's still my country" but that makes the stickee look like the childish retard they really are so they never would buy it.
