Lesser Evils

I realize that there are some idealists out there who still believe in voting for the best candidate, but I am more of a realist. The next President will be the person who is best able to survive the mud slinging, and get's the most "anyone but him/her" votes.

Since it looks like it's coming down to Shrill/Obama and Mitt/McCain, who do you think are the lesser evils?

As of today, I see Mitt and Obama as being less screwed up, but mostly because they aren't Hillary or McCain.

Since I'm in Maryland, my vote doesn't count. The candidate who takes this state is almost certainly going to be a Democrat. So I'm going to write-in my cat's name.

The way I see it, if you're truly voting for "change"...then it's between Romney and Obama.

There's a primary coming up. At least we have a vote in that, if not in November.

I don't know about a President Stinkertoes. It doesn't sound very presidential.

I refuse to make that a point in my vote. Change for what? It's always a change.

I realize it might not be the point YOU are making, but it's often the point a challenger makes - they're an agent for change - they're an "outsider" and they'll change things. They have new ideas - to put it the Kerry way - they can "do it better".

My criterion is largely the same - what are you going to do, is it an issue I give a crap about, and do you have any reason to give me so that I believe you can or will do it? That is - have you actually done this before, either in the Senate, or the governor's mansion, or anywhere? Just because you SAY you'll end the war doesn't mean you'll do it. What have you done so far?

So far, very few lead me to lean their way. If it's experience, knowledge and accomplishments, most of the best candidates have left the arena or never entered.

Although to be honest, until Vrai brought it up, I forgot that electoral college is what elects Presidents, and living in a massively Democratic state, my vote for anyone other than a Democrat will be useless.

Maybe I will write in for her cat.
