At least McCain answered the call to duty and hence as earned his rights. Fatboy apparantly cringed when it was his turn.

Are you saying that you only have rights if you've served in the military? Because it looks like that's what you're saying. You're not allowed to have an opinion if you're not a veteran?

If it is your intention to take my words out of context, then that is your right. My words are for that idiot who questions a fellow veteran about his right to his.I served so that others may also have the same right or wrong. It is simply that. That includes you, thank you and you're welcome. Limbaugh , who used deferments to get out of serving, should be thankful, NOT disrespectful towards someone who did and if that person is running for the exalted office, even more so.. So you are saying that because I served , I should be quiet ? That I should be afraid? Maybe I should...I am afraid that my country is fragmenting and that those who disagree with the status quo are deemed unamerican. I will not be quiet about that. This forum, at least from what I take it, is not a mutual admiration society, but one where Americans can disagree with one another with civility. I am not always right, frequently I am wrong and I will honestly admit that to you. Conversely, like many of you, I believe I have points to make that I feel are right too. However, that is what we all are...individuals who have the right to be right or wrong. The trouble is that each side has demonized one another to the point of no return. I want to reach a common ground among ourselves that say we are Americans first and we will defend each other to the death to keep our land and ideas alive. Is that so wrong ? In case, you are wondering, I am not a McCain fan, but I do admire a person that has survived the crucible of adversity.

Limbaugh criticized McCain. You suddenly brought military service into this equation out of the blue, and you certainly seemed to imply that McCain has the right to do whatever it is he does without scrutiny from the likes of Limbaugh, since he lacks military experience. Quote:
Yeah. That's exactly what I said.Because I knew that you were a veteran, and I was trying to silence you, as I do with all vets.

Hello NH Thank you for the memories of an extraordinary man in extraordinary times. I remember seeing this on a tiny television set back in the 50's and even as a very young boy, felt a sense of wonder in it. It would be great to have this played in all the schools, so that it if it could change the mind of at least one or two, then the meaning of it all would not be lost. You are a good person for at least reminding this American what it's all about.

First of all there are two major types of people that did not serve in the military during VN: Those that support our military during war and those that do not. Limbaugh is an example of someone that does. Clinton is an example of someone that does not. Second... "Fatboy" did not cringe at his duty to serve. He was medically disqualified. Regardless of whether you believe it was legitimate or not, the military did. Here's the Snopes article about it.

Hi. I served as well. If you did indeed serve, then you know that the military has its share of messed up individuals just like any other group of people. There are a lot of really super people in the military, and there are a lot of s#itbags as well. So I am not so quick to bestow hero or any other exaulted status on anyone solely because they wore the uniform. It's what you do and how you conduct yourself while wearing that uniform that matters, not the fact that you agreed to wear it. McCain wore the uniform, but he was a total POS. He finished near the bottom of his academy class, and was constantly in trouble not for academics but for disciplinary issues. Once he graduated and started flying, he crashed two aircraft, which is two more than 99.99% of other Navy pilots crash in their careers. He was always getting into trouble as a JO, and were it not for his getting his ass shot down and imprisioned, he would have been given his walking papers as an O-3. He comes out of the Hanoi Hilton as a star because his story was widely reported because of who his father was, and the Navy, as a reward for his time as a POW, gave him command of a training squadron. Not a frontline operational squadron, but a training squadron. After that he got shunted off to be a liason officer to the Senate. Again, if you have indeed served, you know what it means when an officer goes from being screened and selected for command to being shunted off to some out-of-the-way BS admin post. It means "you aren't good enough for higher command, but you haven't screwed up enough for us to toss you out, so we're going to stash you somewhere that you can't cause too much damage until you can retire". So they park McCain at the Senate for a three-year tour and he retires at 22 years knowing he'll never go any further in the service. McCain was a class A screwup who's career got a short reprieve because of his POW status. He was never the commander of the largest squadron in the Navy, but rather the largest attack squadron in the Navy, meaning he was responsible for commanding 200-300 squadron personnel and 100 or so students. That sounds impressive until you start talking about skippers of aircraft carriers who command 5,000+ people, or Fleet Commanders who command 50,000+. When you put it in perspective, being the commander of the largest attack squadron in the Navy isn't much of an accomplishment when compared to the responsibilities of more accomplished commanders, and the fact that he commanded a training unit, that would never see combat, makes it even less significant. Does he deserve credit for joining the military? Yes. But does he deserve accoladees for his service while in uniform? I don't think so, and apparently the Navy didn't eaither.
