Thumbs down The Clinton Health Care Plan

Clinton said such measures would apply only to workers who can afford health coverage but refuse to buy it, which puts undue pressure on hospitals and emergency rooms. With her proposals for subsidies, she said, "it will be affordable for everyone."

We can definitely fix healthcare costs by making more legally bound consumers. I mean, those health insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and other medical establishments will get right to lowering the costs once we force more people to pay them whether they want to or not. Nothing brings down costs like having captive consumers.

Does anybody know where we're getting the money to give everyone health insurance anyways?

And I thought about this yesterday when I watched the MTV ("booger eating") forum. The democrats talk endlessly about how they are the party of change and want to leave things better for the next generation. They want to END the war in Iraq; leaving the mess for the next generation to deal with. They want atronomical taxes to pay for endless social programs for the next generation to deal with.

Who really believes these people care about the next generation?

The fix for the healthcare problem already exists. It's called Healthcare Spending Accounts (HSA). This past year, two of my kids lost their covereage under my issurance because of their age. We priced out individual coverage for both of them, but even at age 21 and 20, their premiums were going to be about $250/month. When the HSAs became available, we priced those out and the results were much better.

They were both able to sign up for their own HSA for $36 a month. The deal with an HSA is that you need to have a medical savings account associated with it, which the insurer set up, and they put $50 a month into it. So for $86 a month they have insurance. Best of all, that $50 is theirs, not the insurers. The downside to the HSA is that they have a $1,500 deductible before their 80/20 coverage kicks in, but that's what the savings account is for. Since their not having to go to the doctor very often, their $50 is stadilly growing in their accounts.

My daughter just went fulltime at a nursing agency, and she had a choice between their HSA and a traditional healthplan. She kept her original plan, and her company agreed to put $150/month into her account rather than pay $150 towards a traditional plan. So she stopped paying the $50 in herself, and is getting the $150 from her company. And if she goes to a new job, every dime her company put into her account stays with her, it doesn't go to the insurer.

So far, I've gotten the message that Ron Paul is the only one who genuinely cares about the state of the union.

It's going to come from the same place it comes from now, all of us who pay our way via health insurance premiums. We pay for the uninsured. Only we pay for them to receive care in the ER for things that should be handled in a DRs office for much less cost.

My employer offers these as well. It's actually called the High Deductable Insurance option which has an associated Healthcare Savings Account (HSA). The nice thing about an HSA is that the balance caries over year to year unlike the Flexable Spending Accounts (FSA) where you have to use or loose the money by the end of the year.
