Are union members qualified before or after they join? If it's before, then there are qualified non-members. If it's after, then there are unqualified members. Bottom line is that union membership has absolutely nothing to do with workmanship.

Lord have mercy, I'm agreeing with Forestal! I agree that some union workers are complacent because of their union protection but, truth be known, we wouldn't have the payscale we have today or the vacation time & medical benefits if it weren't for the unions. I've been union member all of my working life, a shop steward in the last 5 years and I'm still a member in retirement. What you reported RP was not unusual but an isolated incident. The union normally uses scare tactics on it's members who cross a picket line during a strike.
