O well just more assbackwardness of this country.
My union leaders wanted me to vote Democrat and I told them I can't go against my moral values. They said my employment is more important than my values. The Dem's are definitely pro union, which is good, but ask yourself this: Why do the big corporations want to "bust" the unions? So they can do what ever they want to the employees! Like take their pensions as Verizon and others did to their management people, take their medical benefits like Sears, HP & IBM did to their workers and lay off anyone at anytime. Wise up folks! There is no call for CEO's making $20, 30, 40 million a year at the top and then claiming they need to cut working folks jobs at the bottom. That's the union's platform. NO CEO ALIVE needs to starve their workers when it is those workers who got them to where they are today.

Talking about Union within Audi/ VW..

Socialist.. at least their union practices truth in advertising.

Of course this article was about the Union making concessions to VW to ensure their plant stayed open, their workers stayed employed and their jobs stayed put... NOTHING like our UAW..

My dad was a union worker in the 60's and early 70's. In the late 70's he got out and got a non-union job, worked until 2001 as a non-union worker and retired from his company.

He then came back on as a contractor at the same place as a union worker again. It lasted a couple months and he quit, couldn't take the bickering and the retarded rules they would adbide by. Need to have an electrician come out to unhook a ground wire from a trailer before it could be moved? Gimme a break, some of them are the most ineffecient workers I have ever seen in my life.

I hate to paint them all with a broad brush but overwhelmingly my experiences with them have been bad. Like damn kids, writting crap like "no rats" ect... in the bathroom stalls. I had to laugh at one, it was long, real long and was bashing Bush, calling him an idiot, with about 2 words per sentence spelled wrong. Classic.

Trade unions are very strong in Germany.

Yes they are, and there apprenticeship programs start when a child is 13 years old, making our Vocational programs look pretty silly.

A friend of mine started his toolmaker apprenticeship at the age of 13, at that age a child in Germany has to decide what route he wants to take in his life. A trade, or a profession requiring college. They continue going to school AND working in their chosen apprenticeship.

When I met him he was graduated high school and had almost completed his apprenticeship at the age of 17. 5 years apprenticeship lead to a Journeymans license (?) and a BIG payraise.

Now if our trade unions invested in our youth like that, paying for education and training from the age of 13.. maybe I'd be little more impresses and little more supportive.

Of course all good stories must come to an end. I was reassigned stateside, and a couple years later a friend of mine followed to Ft Knox.. when he left my friends dad asked him if he EVER saw me to tell me (like what are the chances he would ever see me) that my best friend had died, killed by a drunk American driver in Germany.

Damn, the story I could tell.. but maybe for another thread.

As long as somebody playing a childs game gets paid 20 or 30 million dollars a year, I don't have a problem with a person that runs a company with 10's of thousands of emplyess making twice or ten times that..

Actually they do, but you have to wait until you graduate from highschool. If you join a mechanical trade, they put you through 5 years of schooling. That is why I keep saying, when you go union, you know you are getting quality craftsman. I'm sure there are plenty of quality workers in open shops, but they don't put their members through training like the union shops do

Try living your life without all the good things that have come from the sacrifices that working men and women of unions have made, and then tell me again that unions suck.

As a former lineman (non-union), a bunch of years back, we did on occasion work 16 hour days, including weekends, holidays and still got our lunches, safety equipment, leave and the overtime money rocked! :

Unions are the reason contracting has been such a boom for the last three decades. The union slobs get lazier and lazier, the cost of getting the work done grows uncontrollably and then it's contracted out.

THANK YOU LOCAL 104!
