Michelle Obama thesis was on racial divide

"Michelle Obama's senior year thesis at Princeton University, obtained from the campaign by Politico, shows a document written by a young woman grappling with a society in which a black Princeton alumnus might only be allowed to remain "on the periphery." Read the full thesis here: Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4.

"My experiences at Princeton have made me far more aware of my 'blackness' than ever before," the future Mrs. Obama wrote in her thesis introduction. "I have found that at Princeton, no matter how liberal and open-minded some of my white professors and classmates try to be toward me, I sometimes feel like a visitor on campus; as if I really don't belong. Regardless of the circumstances underwhich I interact with whites at Princeton, it often seems as if, to them, I will always be black first and a student second."

She's got it bad. She has had it a long time. It has dominated her life.
Its the reason she has never been proud to be an American.
No matter how hard she tries she cannot hide it.
She may be a smart, highly intelligent woman, but she has been mentally crippled by the same thing that cripples many people of all races.

Its called racism folks.

And the myth that it only exists in White people is indeed that-----a myth.

Exactly...and it more damaging and dishonest, because it is the type practiced by three piece suits, waving their degrees to prove how they've "grown" and learned to mingle. It is more respectable, in my humble opinion, to be open and direct to my face, than turn out to be a back stabber. I suspect a good percentage of those non-black supporters of Obama fit into this subtle category, other than misinformed idealistic youth.
If Ms Obama felt this way, why didn't she attend one of the more prestigious black colleges? Can it then not be construed that this is a form of racism on her part? This reminds me of the Bakke decision in California back in the 70's. She seems to have forgotten that Affirmative Action as well as family status got her from point A to Point B. I wonder what non-minority was bumped to give her a shot ? Ket's face it, she doesn't look the part of someone who has "suffered" We should all be so lucky.

If I remember correctly, there was a white student who attended Grambling either in the 60's or 70's/ (Bruce Jenner played his part in the movie). Though a gifted athelete as well as a student, he was (no pun intended)blacklisted by his fellow teammates (football) because of his race. His relationship with a young African American student was also doomed as she received enough pressure from her peers that she broke it off.
Racism is not an exclusive property. We all get stuck, but most of us move on and learn to deal with it. The memories may make us momentarily angry at intermittant times, but we get over it, there are more important things to worry about and we go on.

...Did any of you actually read the woman's thesis or any of the excerpts? It's not as if her thesis was supporting a racial divide. She was a black woman at Princeton in the '80s, and she was commenting on what she saw around her. The thesis does indeed show "a young woman grappling with a society" in which a young, educated black woman entering the professional world could only remain on the periphery. What would you expect it to show? She was commenting on the divide in the hopes that it would improve.
