Democrats Seek FEC Probe of McCain

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - The national Democratic party wants campaign finance regulators to investigate whether Sen. John McCain would violate money-in-politics laws by withdrawing from the primary election's public finance system.

McCain, who had been entitled to $5.8 million in federal funds for the primary, has decided to bypass the system so he can avoid spending limits between now and the GOP's national convention in September.

McCain to run afowl of campaign Finance Laws ....... Oh the Irony

Now, that would be ironic. I read a story about this before Super Tuesday, and I thought the same thing. (not this story, I read another one) And Brit Hume & his panel addressed it tonight on Special Report on FNC tonight at 6pm.

What they were saying is it's true that McCain did apply for the funds, but McCain has NOT touched or used the funds, so his advisors are saying he can refuse to use them afterall and that's fine, there's no law against that. However, the FEC board or whatever it is called can't "rule" on it because there isn't a quorum on the board right now. The reason? Due to the Dems stonewalling on replacing 1 or 2 members.

It isn't clear he has done anything wrong, (yet). So it could be much todo about not much. Besides all that - Howard Dean is the pot calling the kettle black because he did the same thing in 2004.

It's a darn shame that the prospective presidential canidates have to resort to mud slinging to get the job. I know it's been that way for a long time but it's really sad. Who wants to guess what we'll read in the news tomorrow. I think it's Hillary's turn to be the target, isn't it? Yesteday was Barack, today is McCain, so Hillary is due. I wonder what it will be!
