Rice hails Obama race speech as "important".......

Rice hails Obama race speech as "important" for U.S.

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Sometimes touted as a contender for the Republican vice-presidential slot, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has aired her thoughts on race in the United States, a prominent issue in the presidential election campaign.

Rice, the top ranking African-American in President George W. Bush's cabinet, told The Washington Times she had watched Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Barack Obama's major speech on race last week.

"I think it was important that he (Obama) gave it for a whole host of reasons," said Rice in a transcript of the interview released by the State Department on Friday.

Obama would be the first black U.S. president if he wins the Democratic nomination and beats Republican candidate John McCain in the November election to succeed Bush.

Obama's speech -- which he gave after a storm of criticism over racially charged sermons by the black pastor of his church -- spoke of a racial stalemate in the United States and a need to heal racial wounds."

I thought Clinton was the first black president. And, Barry isn't actually much more physically a black man than Clinton, is he? I thought he was at least as white as he is black, so wouldn't he be the first bi-racial president, not the first black president?

In the article, she is quoted "While many blacks called themselves African American, Rice said they should not be looked at as immigrants."

What in the world does that mean?

She's going to have an intense struggle if she plans on furthering her political career. I know a few on here are all smitten with her.

At a minimum...she's going to need a few years out of the spotlight to be a force. She needs to distance herself from this disaster.

Some say: "Hey...she'd be the perfect VP to McCain!!!".

But America's gonna see through that sham 30 seconds after it's announced.

And for the few slow ones that didn't figure that out...

Do you really want a Bushie on the ticket??? REALLLLY?!?!?!?

Condi's a key part of the problem..not the solution.

Why should anyone be surporised about Rice adhering to the same basic tenets of the Obama speech. I believe probably 90% of America's blacks would agree with it.

They have been fed that crap with their mother's milk.

If the Obama speech is important it is no more important than the answer to it given by Pat Buchanon. The only man with the balls to give an honest answer. If a new discourse on black-white relations is to be heard then the white mans side of the picture must be heard as well. Who is really holding blacks back? Themselves or everyone else?

Okay, I just read the article - what part of Condi's comments could anyone possibly take issue with?

I didn't see where she said it was a wonderful speech and everything Barack said is true. I don't know how you get any more ambiguous than, "I think it was important that he (Obama) gave it for a whole host of reasons."
