Extra weight cited as well
In his update Tuesday, Rosenker also noted structural weight had been added to the bridge in two major renovations, as well as construction materials that were on the bridge the day it collapsed as part of a resurfacing project.

O RLY?

WASHINGTON — The Interstate 35W bridge over the Mississippi in Minneapolis collapsed last August after construction workers had put 99 tons of sand on the roadway directly over two of the bridge’s weakest points, according to a National Transportation Safety Board report.

MSNBC.com's Bridge Inspection coverage is, by a mile, the most comprehensive of any site I've found.

I've already said what I think of their garbage "MSNBC POLITICS" and their crappy non-essential news coverage.

I did my own research, and this is the best online analysis and research site at the present time. In fact, this is the best use of internet news I've seen.

In case you didn't notice the cumulative effect of multiple renovations was cited, but that's cool; I believe you over the NTSB
