McCain at Annapolis today.........................

At Annapolis, McCain, son of admirals, will call for service to country

"Sen. John McCain takes another patriotic walk down memory lane today when he returns to the Naval Academy in Annapolis and recalls the most important lesson he learned there – the importance of serving a cause greater than your own self-interest.

McCain famously graduated fifth from the bottom of his class.

“In truth, my four years at the Naval Academy were not notable for exemplary virtue or academic achievement but, rather, for the impressive catalogue of demerits I managed to accumulate,” he is expected to say, according to prepared remarks. “By my reckoning, at the end of my second class year, I had marched enough extra duty to take me to Baltimore and back seventeen times -- which, if not a record, certainly ranks somewhere very near the top.”

U.S. Grant was last or near the last in his class, right?

George Patton was in that bottom rungs academically too, as I recall. Made up for his failing by being athletic.

Patton had 21 guys finish worse than he did, McCain only had four. Also, Patton is believed to have had a bad case of dyslexia, which was an unknown afliction back then. He was at the top of his class in subjects like history (no surprise there) but horrible at math, which was what killed his class standing. McCain did not suffer from any ailments, and his class standing was determined by his self-admitted lack of effort and countless demerits.

At least he admits the mistakes he's made publicly and doesn't make namby pamby excuses for them.

Unlike Hillary ("So what, I made up a story - I'm human")Clinton and Barack ("My dealings [specifically, his house deal] with Resko were just 'misguided' ") Obama

Are we going...

...to actually make a virtue out of McCain's ineptitude and crap attitude?
Is last the new first? Yeah, being at the top of a class doesn't automatically make you the best leader or the wisest or the most intelligent or an instant indicator of future greatness, but it's a damn site better than being one of the worst.

Further, Grant and Patton made their marks and rose to the top in TIMES OF WAR, people, on the battlefield. Is John gonna suit up and jump back into an F-111? He certainly didn't distinguish himself in uniform, once the schooling was over, now did he?

This man authored one of the most restrictive assaults on free speech in this nations history because he doesn't like what other people have to say. That is a totalitarian impulse and indicative of a person insecure in what they do and think; criticism agitates them and distracts them.

A Patton or Grant didn't give a rats azz what anyone thought of them or how they did their job; they were immune to criticism.

Further, he is on board with the Algore man made global warming religion. He may as well tell us he believes in the Easter Bunny.

McCain tells us he don't know anything about economics. Too bad you didn't pay attention in school; they teach you to READ, do critical thinking, analysis and stuff.

McCain is all in for the occupation of Iraq. Maybe if he'd paid attention in history class he'd have a different view.

McCain hasn't built up a business. He didn't rise to great command heights. He married into money has been a US Senator for a long time.

This is not what I have in mind for presidential timber.

No, I'm not - but at least he does take some credit for his screwups. That's all I said. I think he had a few good lines written for him and he delivered them half way decently, too.

Heck - we all know the presidential candidates are very flawed this election cycle. At least the majority of the people on this forum do seem to agree on that much.

So the pickings & choices are slim. And whatever anybody does about it in the voting booth is whatever they do about it and the outcome will be what it is. No matter what - we all have to deal w/ whatever happens & that's that. I'm not out to change anyone's mind, just adding my 2 cents to the pot.

...enough. Frankly, I wouldn't give a damn about McCain's past record IF, IF his politics were something I could support. They are not.

His hostility to the 1st amendment speaks to me about a person who is far more interested in shutting people up and sanctifying his actions by making the system worse than someone who works to make the system better.

McCain's whole basis for the governmental censoring and limiting of free speech is because asking for money was corrupting. When asked, numerous times, how it corrupted him or if he knew anyone it corrupted, he would never answer the damn question. He has a huge 'How dare you question me!?' quotient.

Now, lobbyists are running his campaign.
