Bruzilla, how can you support this?

Q: As a state legislator, you voted against a bill which would let people with orders of protection [against others] carry guns and another that would have barred municipalities from punishing people who kept guns in their homes. Why?

A: I felt that [the first one] was a precedent for conceal-and-carry laws. There has not been any evidence that allowing people to carry a concealed weapon is going to make anybody safer. [The second one] is relevant to the D.C. handgun issue. I wanted to preserve the right of local communities to enforce local ordinances and this would have overturned municipalities being able to enforce their own ordinances. We can argue about whether the ordinances work or not. But I wanted to make sure that local communities were recognized as having a right to regulate firearms.

ETA-This begs the question, has Obama requested the Secret Service to disarm?

hmmm. i wonder what good the first one would do. from my experience...personalities that unfortunately are the ones obtaining the protective orders...would not shoot, therefore would not be safer carrying. and the people that would shoot, are the ones that wouldnt get f-ed with to begin with. and not everyone, not all the time. my personal overall experience with these. i guess a profile.

I disagree. And Bruzilla, who this is directed at, is a bit of a "gun nut" yet supports Obama.

BTW- anyone, protective order or not has the right to defend themselves, and since not everyone is 6'5'' and 300 lbs. and alot of criminals carry guns, this means people have the right to defend themselves with guns.

Local ordinances trump the 2nd Amendment? I don't THINK so, Homer. As the Heller vs. DC SCOTUS case will show.

Sorry, I don't usually do that. That's just one of those things that curls my toes when I read it.

I agree with AK. Of course, the reality of it is that carrying concealed is a royal PITA. I couldn't wait to get my permit, and since getting it close to four years ago I think I've carried three times. It's really cool at first, but it gets old really quick.

Why do you think I would support this view? I don't, nor do I support any of Obama's other views, just as I don't support much of anything about Obama. I look at Obama in the same useful idiot category that the Dems view McCain.

Speaking of McCain, what makes you think that our gun rights are going to be one bit safer with him than with Obama? I guarantee you that Chuckie Schumer has a laundry list of gun laws just waiting to hit the books after November of this year. It seems like ever since he got the nomination, everyone suddenly has forgotten what a RINO McCain is! They all seem to buy into McCain's primary conversion to conservatism and want to fool themselves into thinking he really has changed. He hasn't! A RINO is going to make concessions with clowns like Schumer, and that's another guarantee.

For me there is are two fundamental questions for this election as I see no difference between McCain and Obama. Those questions are A: who will be the easist to unseat in 2012, and B: which party will suffer the most problems when that happens? I for one do not want to see the Republican party rip itself to pieces to get rid of a horrible POS President McCain in 2012 when we can enjoy watching the Democrats rip themselves up defending a POS President Obama.

Yet you claim you are going to vote for him. That is selling out.

If you want to take the moral high ground, vote for somebody you like, write someone in, or don't vote for anyone.

Voting for Obama to "teach the country a lesson" is stupid.
