Well, you're wrong. Edwards had an extremely low approval rating and was most certainly NOT going to be re-elected. He ran for Prez and failed at that (to John Kerry, no less), then he failed to bring home the bacon as a VP contender.

And, PS, this year both Hillary AND Obama stomped him out, even though he trotted out that boring wife cancer story again.

I supplied proof that his polling was favorable when he retired from the Senate. Where is your proof showing otherwise?

Now wait a minute... for those having to suffer through cancer, it's hardly boring. It's extremely frightening. Talking about it (for most) is an out.

Oh please. Elizabeth Edwards only made that announcement because she thought she could get the sympathy vote for her old man.

Cancer is a serious disease: my mother almost died from cervical cancer, and my SIL has breast cancer. That's why I find it particularly heinous to use it as a campaign platform.

Obama/McKinney has a nice ring to it.

None of these links shows him polling low for his Senate reelection in 2004.

Try again.

Well, as much as I can't stand Edwards I find it hard to believe that he used it for political sympathy. It was something that had to eventually come out. He would have to explain it eventually if it affected what he was doing on a daily basis (hospital trips, cancelled speeches/campaign stops, etc...).
