John Edwards does nothing that doesn't benefit his ego. I firmly believe that he is so cynical that he would use his wife's illness as a campaign platform. And she, because she's smart, is like "Hey, wtf?" In fact, it was probably her idea.

SHE is the brain power in that family, not him. And I recognize her because if it were me, I'd have done the same thing. Use what ya got to get what you want.

However, he did not help Kerry win North Carolina, yes? He did not help Kerry win South Carolina, yes? You can be mommy of Sen. Edwards and protect him from slights and mean words, but you can't around the fact that his 'brand' name is weak and has been for years. Even the Barrack chorus on the tube were remaking how he seemed a bit shocked when the crowd started chanting about Barrack and not his name when he made his grand, brave, principled committal speech.

He was offered a VP - if he thought they had a chance of winning, of course he'd quit on the Senate. You have to wonder, though, what Kerry was thinking when he picked Edwards.
