For anyone who cares to read - I found these tonight: (some of it might sound vaguely familiar to frequent visitors to the politics forum.) Ted Sampley Revealed - gotta read this page to believe it. Too much to post here. FTA: A former Green Beret with multiple Bronze Star awards from Vietnam, Sampley has the outward appearance of the stereotypical downtrodden veteran outfitted by the local Army surplus store. But he is in fact a savvy businessman who is forth- right about earning money off "the cause" and is a key figure in the MIA issue. Unlike his colleagues who uncover POW "evidence" and solicit funds to embark on rescue missions, Sampley specializes in media manipulation and public relations. He has been invaluable to the activists, who rely on him to fan the flames of existing MIA stories, either through phone calls to legitimate journalists or on the pages of his own newspaper broadsheet, U.S. Veteran News and Report. In addition to his work in support of fellow activists, Sampley specializes in orchestrating stunts that are dramatic and at times dangerous. No Manchurian Candidate Whence the Attacks on John McCain? Summary. For some years now there have been steady attacks on the valor and patriotism of Senator John McCain (Republican, Arizona). McCain was a Navy aviator, shot down over North Vietnam on 26 October 1967 and released at Operation Homecoming in March 1973. He was severely injured in his ejection and landing and endured unspeakable tortures. The attacks on McCain originate almost entirely from a small number of Vietnam veterans. Many of his attackers accuse him of collaborating with his Vietnamese captors, in spite of testimony from other POWs as to his bravery, leadership, and valorous conduct. Why and from where come the attacks on McCain? The source of the attacks on McCain is, mainly, one MIA "activist" who accuses McCain of treasonous activities; his accusations are based on misquotes, misrepresentations, and Vietnamese wartime propaganda. Yet, this story has gained the status of gospel among the McCain haters and the MIA "activists." Read on for the rest of the story.

| From Joe Schlatter's page on Ted Sampley, he writes: "Summary. In my discussion of the attacks on Senator John McCain, I rely on work published by Ms. Susan Katz Keating in her book Prisoners of Hope: Exploiting the POW-MIA Myth in America. Ms. Keating, while she was a reporter for the Washington Times, was convinced that live American POWs remained in Vietnam. As time went on and she became more and more acquainted with the issue, she discovered the facts of the charlatans who take advantage of MIA families and who flim-flam the public, as well as discovering that the US government could have done a better job of managing the issue." From Susan Katz Keating's Blog about Ross Perot: Friday, January 18, 2008 Former POW's Letter to Newsweek I don't often do this, but today's first post received a comment that I'm going to repost and highlight. The comment comes from Dr. Hal Kushner, a former Army flight surgeon who spent five and half years in captivity in Vietnam. Kushner has written to Newsweek's Jonathan Alter in response to Alter's article quoting Ross Perot slamming John McCain. Kushner is not happy about Perot's charges that ex-POWs shun McCain, and wants to set the record straight. He posted a copy of his letter to Newsweek as a comment on this blog. I think it deserves a highlight. Background on Hal: He was captured in 1967, and was held for four years in a camp in Quang Nam in the south. In 1971, he was force-marched for 57 days to Hanoi, and was later released from there. As I wrote in Prisoners of Hope, Kushner estimated that the mortality rate among POWs held in the south was 45 percent. From my book: "He was not officially allowed to treat his fellow prisoners but did what he could surreptitiously. In extreme cases, the Viet Cong let him help obviously dying men. The Viet Cong's medicine - caffeine, aspirin, and epinephrine - was useless. Ten POWs died in Kushner's arms at Quang Nam." I write this to show that Kushner knows fully well of what he speaks. Here is how he responded to Ross Perot's accusations against John McCain: (see link below for his letter to smarmy Jonathan Alter) Susan Katz Keating: Ross Perot

| For anyone who hasn't read it here is a great read that originally appeared in the May 14, 1973 issue of U.S.News & World Report. John McCain, Prisoner of War: A First-Person Account By John S. McCain III, Lieut. Commander, U.S. Navy |

| Separations are difficult on families. While stationed in Hawaii as a Direct Support Subsurface Division Chief, our divorce rate was directly proportional to our deployment rate of nearly 80%. Sad but reality sometimes sucks.

This is true. In all these years, Carol Shepp McCain has refused to do media interviews about her 2nd husband. That Carol herself has never spoken publicly on her ex-husband except to endorse him - is very telling. Indeed, her 2 sons, whom McCain adopted when he married her, also endorse & support him. OH of course, they had their fights and family problems over the divorce - but apparently, they've moved on beyond that. So, instead of having actual words of Carol's to print, the media has surmised, twisted others' words and/or flat out made up things to print.

| But, to get back to the topic at hand..... Frosty, you've once again blown it. Won't you ever learn? What am I saying, you cannot learn unless the DU dips it into your gourd.
