| My question is how are we going to really lower prices if we don't change the way the market works? Our energy companies are contracted to buy oil based on market vlaue, so they pay the same for oil pumped down the street as oil pumped from Saudi Arabia. As we increase production, OPEC can decrease production to offset. Also, where's the money from all these new refineries going to come from? If it comes from the energy companies, they are going to roll that cost into the price of their products. I think if we leave all this in the hands of the oil and energy companies, we won't see much of a drop in price. They'll raise their hands and say they are tied by their contracts to buy oil, and the refiners will say their hands are tied by unfunded mandates from the government. |

| Thursday, May 11, 2006 “Democrats have a real plan to energize the nation, calling on American farmers to fuel our energy independence. The energy challenges facing our nation are real, but Americans are ready to rise up and meet the challenge as they always do. The answer is right here at home. From corn in the Midwest, to soybeans in North Carolina, to sugar beets in Minnesota, we grow the crops that can be converted into the biofuels that power our cars. It is good for the environment, good for our economy, good for our farmers, and good for our national security. Press Release :: Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, California, 8th District With the price of a barrel of oil reaching record highs, one would think that Congress would be working on a bipartisan energy bill that would allow the United States to produce more of its own oil. Instead, Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic leadership have decided to privately write the new law behind closed doors. That is not encouraging news for anyone who wants an energy bill Pelosi and Friends Back-Room Energy Plan - HUMAN EVENTS June 13 2007--The House delayed two energy sessions, but Speaker Nancy Pelosi says there will be a bill by July 4. | Blame Democrats for high gas prices Alfred C. Anderson Anderson, of Vinton, is the 6th district Republican chairman. Two years ago then Minority Leader Nancy Pelost boldly proclaimed, "Democrats have a common-sense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices." Since she became speaker of the House, gas prices have skyrocketed from about $2.33 per gallon to $3.85 as I write this. This is a $1.52 per gallon Pelosi premium increase American families are forced to pay at the pump. She and the Democrats who now control the House have not only failed to offer the meaningful solutions they promised, but they have actually put forward policies that have the opposite effect. These include placing another 55 cents onto the price of gasoline though a higher gas tax to raising taxes on oil companies which would result in fewer jobs and still higher prices at the pump. Middle class families need real relief, not more broken promises from the Democrats. Republicans have offered solutions to reduce our dependence on foreign sources of energy and invest in all forms of energy to create jobs here at home and grow our economy. Blame Democrats for high gas prices - Roanoke.com I agree with Vinton. The last line of his article nails Socialist policy right on the head.

| I don't know if this is posted anywhere, yet - going to put it in the News & Current Events forum Half a Million Americans Petition Congress to Drill for Oil Now By: June 11, 2008 WASHINGTON, DC – American Solutions for Winning the Future announced today that more than half a million Americans have now signed a petition urging Congress to immediately start drilling for oil domestically to lower gas prices. The petition is part of the “Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less” campaign American Solutions launched a few weeks ago. The petition reads: “We, therefore, the undersigned citizens of the United States, petition the U.S. Congress to act immediately to lower gasoline prices (and diesel and other fuel prices) by authorizing the exploration of proven energy reserves to reduce our dependence on foreign energy sources from unstable countries.” American Solutions - Tell a Friend
