Liberals: We need a more progressive tax system.

Conservative: But don't you favor regressive higher gas taxes, which hit the poor the hardest?

Liberals: Frack 'em

higher gas taxes are the solution to the consumer’s problem of high gas prices

FTA: And if we made gasoline more expensive through, say, higher gas taxes or a carbon tax then not only would we secure the public health, congestion, and environmental benefits of expensive gas but the government would have a good source of revenue with which to mitigate some of the consumer pain.

In other words, tax everyone and then mitigate some consumer pain (just the consumers whose vote they can buy) with the revenues taken from all.

Typical socialist tax policy, not to raise revenue but to exercise control and exact vengeance on those they govern.

The author should stick to rabble rousing, that's all he's good at. Lord knows he can't reason logically.

This is typical short-sighted Liberal logic, brought to you by the same people who think if you start rolling fuel cell cars off the assembly line that working-class people will immediately dump their gas vehicles and snap up a $30,000+ new car. They'll have them trade a $400 fuel bill for a $500 car payment each month. Sure, higher gas costs will force people into public transportation... but you have to first have public transportation for them to go into. We have the cities pretty well covered, but that's about it. So all they are doing is screwing over the people they claim to protect.
