Is this appeasement?

If Barrack wants to do this, its labeled Appeasement. So what does the hard right have to say about Bush’s plans to meet with Iran

The Bush administration’s decision to send a senior American official to participate in international talks with Iran this weekend reflects a double policy shift in the struggle to resolve the impasse over the country’s nuclear program.

First, the Bush administration has decided to abandon its longstanding position that it would meet face to face with Iran only after the country suspended its uranium enrichment, as demanded by the United Nations Security Council.

Second, an American partner at the table injects new importance to the negotiating track of the six global powers confronting Iran — France, Britain, Germany, Russia, China and the United States — even though their official stance is that no substantive talks can begin until uranium enrichment stops.

The increased engagement raised questions of whether the Bush administration would alter its stance toward Iran as radically as it did with North Korea, risking a fresh schism with conservatives who have accused the White House of granting concessions to so-called rogue states without extracting enough in return.

The administration sought to describe the talks as a continuation of the same strategy it has always pursued: halting Iran’s nuclear activities without having to resort to military force.
The problem with Bush’s diplomacy is that it only seems to come out when it’s convenient-in this case, at the tail end of his term, when he can let the next President deal with things

Simply meeting with someone is not appeasement. Appeasement occurs after the meeting when you give away the farm. The truth is you can never reach an agreement with someone unless you enter into negotiations with them... a point the Obama and now Bush critics seem to miss.

It must be a real nightmare for NObama with all these successful changes, it's like Bush just poked his gum and it's all over NObama's face...

Is Boosh sitting down and talking to Ahmadinejad without pre-conditions? Or are two underlings meeting?

If you're going to compare this to what Obama said he'd do, it does not fit. It is a course change for the administration, but it is far short of the appeasement that O'bammy favors.

So what exactly has Obama given to the Iranians that constitutes appeasement?

Is he President yet, doofus? Stupid questions like that demonstrate why you couldn't make first class.

It's about what he SAID he'll do. Since he has no record, we can only go by what he said he will do.

It wont amount to anything. Iran isnt going to change its mind and stop producing Nuclear material. It will only prove that Obama's offer to talk is a waste of time. Just as Mr. Bush is wasting the time of the two people he sends there. Its a political move pure and simple. Wont amount to a hill of beans except to prove Obama the fool he is.
