Obama raised record $150 million in September with 632,000 new donors

UPDATE from Joe: This is nothing short of stunning. For the past week or so, there was a lot of speculation that the Obama campaign might have broken $100 million, which would have been a huge accomplishment. The biggest month before this was the $66 million raised in August. According to the campaign, there were 632,000 new donors, bringing the total number of people who contributed to the campaign to 3.1 million. Average contribution is $86.

Given the onslaught of negative, vicious attacks on Obama, he'll need every cent of this -- and more. This is going to make the Republicans even crazier. But, it also has to be demoralizing. They're usually the ones with more money and this must feel like a tidal wave of cash pouring over them. It is a tidal wave of support that can crush the GOP.

He chose this route after signing an agreement stating he'd only accept public funds. Good for him, as long as there's 100% accountability as to the source of the funds. There is 100% accountability, right?

That was quite a performance that Michelle Obama delivered when she addressed the Democratic National Convention.

Of course, she talked a little bit about her husband Barack. She said they were both from working-class families, struggling to pay the bills, living by working-class values.

Ordinary folks.

That was the message. The Obamas are just like us.

One problem with that: They aren't.

And they aren't blue-collar. Their modest roots belie what they have become and where they are now.

Yes, Michelle and Barack have come a long way.

No more shopping at Target for them. No more student loans to pay off.

THOUGH he's battling GOP accusations that he's an Ivy League elitist, Barack Obama has a lifestyle of the rich and famous, like TV show host Robin Leach, who always signed off, "Champagne wishes and caviar dreams!" While he was at a meeting at the Waldorf-Astoria at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Michelle Obama called room service and ordered lobster hors d'oeuvres, two whole steamed lobsters, Iranian caviar and champagne, a tipster told Page Six.

Apparently, Barack will sit down with Iranian caviar without preconditions.
