McCain camp bristles at Bush link in new Obama ad

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The morning after he clinched the Republican presidential nomination in March, a triumphant John McCain appeared on the steps of the White House arm in arm with President George W. Bush.

"I'm very honoured and humbled to have the opportunity to receive the endorsement of the President of the United States, a man who I have great admiration, respect and affection," he beamed.

That moment has haunted him ever since. Four days before the Nov. 4 vote, the Republican presidential candidate is still struggling to distance himself from an incumbent who casts a long dark shadow.

His campaign's anger and sensitivity on this topic became public on Thursday after Democrats aired a new ad linking Mr. McCain's economic philosophy with that of Mr. Bush.

"I would say that the most amazingly bankrupt line of argument that I've ever seen in this campaign has been the constant and heavily financed effort on the part of the Obama campaign to make George Bush John McCain's running mate," said Rick Davis, Mr. McCain's campaign manager.

George Bush is the only thing Obama has going for him. Obama has repeated over and over and over the name George Bush.

If Obama wins he will have done it over the body of George Bush because its all he's got. Obama's campaign started 8 years ago when George Bush was elected and Democrats started denigrating him and his administration and its never stopped or slowed down for a moment. Obama was an unknown then and should be now, but Dems will elect anything with a D behind its name.
