Should we just let GM, Ford and Chrysler fail?

GM directly employs 266,000 people, Ford 90,000, Chrysler 133,000 with an estimated 4 million other jobs directly related to supplying parts and or services.

4.4 million jobs would be lost. Asia would have no domestic competition. Every dollar of profit spent on vehicles would leave the country destined to foreign corporate offices.

Next question; should we allow companies to grow to the point they make up a large segment of our economy?

Next question; Should we outlaw labor unions a monopolistic organizations that can ruin industries? Look at the 2 main industries involved with unions, Auto makers and airlines. Neither are/have been in good shape in decades.

Why can't the companies go to the unions and say, "you have to take pay/benefits cuts or the company closes permanently"? Are the unions the only ones who can make demands?

BTW, every time that I have seen a spokesperson/proponent for the "loan", it has been a union leader...

MAYBE, or at least everything but the UAW part.

What will be interesting to see is Detroit, all the empty factories, warehouses and distribution centers, but the Union offices will have packed parking lots of their 'officials' driving new Lexus', BMW's and Mercedes.

What has the Union offered to help these companies stay afloat and ensure their members have jobs in 6 months? Anything?
