NH either went red or just missed. ask Hillary what happens when states hold primaries outta order!
Micheal Steele would make a great VP pick under Jindal IMO.

You're kidding right? You think MSNBC is going to run a story on a study that showed their blatant bias?

I'm not sure I completely agree with this. If you look at the popular vote (52.7% - 46%) McCain didn't do at that bad. When yo look at the county-by-county vote it is predominately red. This election boiled down to demographics. I'm not all that certain any of the GOP candidates that were up would have made any difference.

4. Higher percentage of Democrats showed up.
So, what have we learned?
  1. Looking at the map of red/blue, for the most part, the states containing heavily populated metropolitan areas went for Obama. Urban vs. rural? He targeted issues that appealed mostly to urban populations and he targeted them using methods that were more apt to work in those kinds of markets.
  2. Some republicans didn't vote. Could it have been ones who thought that it didn't matter because there was "no way" he could win? Gee, did they get fooled! I bet they're awake now!
  3. Money counts. McCain was outspent big-time!
  4. Never trust a political opponent to adhere to an agreement or to do the principaled thing. It is a real shame that an honorable man thought his political opponent would stick to an agreement that they had about campaign financing.
  5. McCain's brilliant choice of a female running mate was not enough and too late. Face it, the way things were going, two white guys wouldn't have stood a snowflake's chance in this election. McCain's only shot was to pick the woman. And don't think that won't be an issue in 2012! Some of those votes that McCain got were from women who didn't like either choice (and not necesarily only the Hilary supporters)! Last I heard, females still out-number males in this country.
  6. Purely and simply, the Republican party was out-maneuvered. Politics in this country is a dirty game and hardly anyone who plays fair gets elected (although there are a few exceptions locally).
My bona-fides: involved in politics for the last 20+ years.

Have fun flaming me -- these are just some observations & conversation starters.

I was just stating that I didn’t completely agree with ImnoMensa that the GOP lost because McCain was a piss-poor candidate. I believe this is true in part, but I’m not completely convinced that if Thompson, Huckabee or Romney would have brought in the GOP vote to a level that would have mattered. All I was trying to point out is McCain didn’t do all that bad overall.

I think, in large part, you are right. And I also believe the GOP is gearing up, in a very proper and aggressive way to deal with 2010 and 2012. Steele is a good move for RNC chair. And Gingrich has indicated that he is interested in running in 2012. I'm getting very excited about it.

If republicans have any sense, Steele is excellent for RNC chair -- I was really disappointed that he didn't win the Senate seat and I hope he keeps that ad company on tap for the future. I've been watching Newt for years and always wanted to see him run for Prez as he's wonderfully articulate and has common sense (an uncommon thing these days). Right now I'd like to see a Steele/Palin ticket but it's early days for that kind of thing. A lot can change in two years which is essentially what we're looking at before we start up this never-ending campaign nonsense again. It'll sure be interesting to watch!
